Installation

How to install AndNav from the Android Market?

1. Open the Android-Market and search for "AndNav2" or "AndNav".
2. Select and install it, following the dialogs.

What permissions does AndNav require?

1. android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
   1. Used to determine your approximate location
2. android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
   1. Used to determine your exact location (GPS)
3. android.permission.READ_CONTACTS
   1. Used to navigate to your contacts (NOT used for any data mining)
4. android.permission.INTERNET
   1. Used to determine the route, weather forecast and other online services.
5. android.permission.WAKE_LOCK
   1. Used to make the screen not dim out while being in Navigation Mode
6. android.permission.WRITE_SETTINGS
   1. Used to enable system settings like touch tones
7. android.permission.READ_SETTINGS
   1. Used to read system-settings like whether GPS is enabled or not

During installation I receive a "Package not correctly signed" error

When you receive a system message like "Package not correctly signed" you probably have a old version of AndNav and need to uninstall the old one, before upgrading to the new version you just tried to install. To do so, please follow these steps.

If you can't get it work, please contact our Support.

How to manually uninstall AndNav?

1. Navigate to your "HOME" screen.
2. Press the "MENU" button on your device.
3. Select "Settings" from the menu.
4. Select "Applications".
5. Select "Manage Applications".
6. Select "AndNav" from the list.
7. Hit "uninstall" in the screen that describes AndNav.

Maps & Mapping

My area is poorly mapped, can I do somwething about it?

Yes, you can!

1. When you browse the Settings of AndNav2 you will find the "Trace-Settings" .
2. There you can select what to do with the traces AndNav2 records as you move.
   1. Upload traces to andnav.org and we will process them (sooner or (more likely) later (due to the amount of traces))
   2. Store to SD card to upload, so you can upload them on your own.
   3. Upload the traces to your openstreetmap.org account.

There is a wrong street name / junction / etc. Can I do something against that?

Yes!

1. You can go to openstreetbugs.appspot.com and place a "bug". Others will check these bugs regularly and make changes where needed. Please be clear about the "problem"!

2. Don't you want to wait till someone else fixes your bug? Then create a account at Openstreetmap.org, read the Wiki very carefully and then edit the map yourself!

AndNav2 doesn't find my UK postcode, what can I do?

AndNav2 is using a free dataset of postcodes which unfortunately is not complete (the full dataset from the Royal Mail is quite costly).

BUT: You can easily submit a postcode through the Free the postcode project! (It will take a few days to be accessible from within AndNav2).

OR: You can get the UK-Postcode Navigator plugin which provides more accurate postcode conversion.
